The Wellness Centre goes to Cayman Brac
The Wellness Centre Team will be in the Cayman Brac February 9 - 12, 2011, offering community education workshops on Autism & Childhood Sexual Abuse.  We will be working with the teachers of Cayman Brac to provide some specialized teacher training.

December 2010 - Sexual Trauma Children & Youth Recovery Programme Graduation!

Four brave young women and their parents recently completed a twelve-week therapeutic/educational programme designed to begin the journey of recovery from childhood sexual abuse. It is our privilege to work with such amazing young people and their families and see first hand that through healing, laughter and smiles are still possible.

Childhood sexual abuse is a national epidemic and this programme is offered free to all male or female children/adolescents aged 8yr - 17yrs through ongoing funding provided by The Ministry of Education.

December 2010 - Welcome Big Brothers, Big Sisters

The Wellness Centre is very excited to be working with Big Brothers Big Sisters Cayman in helping to make a difference in the life of a child and changing what it means to grow up in the Cayman Islands.

Come along and meet other parents, find out more information on next steps in the process of diagnosis, funding, support and education. 
Director Shannon Seymour and Board Certified Behavioural Analyst Sloane Pharr will be available to answer questions and provide support.

September 2010 - Sexual Trauma Recovery Support Group  
The Wellness Centre has been commissioned by the Ministry of Education, to provide treatment for children and youth survivors of sexual abuse/assault.

The group will help participants recover from the traumatic effects of abuse, enhance age-appropriate skills, encourage healthy interaction with peers and socially acceptable behaviours, teach children to respect themselves and the rights of others through maintaining appropriate boundaries, strengthen impulse control and reality testing, and improve self esteem.

September 2010 -  Passport2Success
Government launched its second “Passport2Success” course on Monday September 20, boasting a fresh intake of 24 students into the successful educational initiative sponsored by telecommunications provider LIME, Butterfield Bank, and the Cayman-based CML Offshore Recruitment firm.

The programme, created by the Ministry of Education, Training and Employment and once again facilitated by The Wellness Centre, offers school-leavers and other young people a chance to improve their employability, the programme boosts both personal and professional skills, providing practical training in job-specific areas, work experience, exposure to employers and career guidance.

Wellness Centre Director, Shannon Seymour recently reported, “We are very excited to have been asked once again to partner with Government in the delivery of this programme. Our current group is highly motivated and extremely eager to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. The community response from the private sector has been incredible, and I am very excited to have Liz Ramkissoon on board as Programme Instructor. Liz has over 20 years of education experience, as well as an MBA and MS in Human Resource Management. Her experience and education is the perfect combination for the needs of this programme".

September 2010 - Autism Awareness Training
The Ministry of Education, Training and Employment has partnered with The Wellness Centre to locally provide free developmental disabilities and autism awareness training for all pre-school teachers and public health nurses.

The Training will focus on overall autism awareness, equipping pre-school staff with the knowledge necessary to recognize early warning signs of autism, as well as to introduce teachers to the referral process when there is a concern regarding a child who may be exhibiting delays in typical development.

Offered from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon, the training sessions started on September 23rd 2010, in the George Town Library Conference Room. Thereafter they are scheduled for the first and third Thursday of each month, between October 2010 and March 2011.

September 2010 - Welcome Simone Clifford -  Administrator

The Wellness Centre welcomes to our team Simone Clifford as Administrator.  Simone has over 15 years administrative health and medical skills, with special emphasis in Public Health and Child Health management.  Her wealth of knowledge in health promotion makes her a valuable member to our team.

April 2010 - Welcome Sloane Pharr - ABA therapist
The Wellness Centre is very excited to announce the arrival of Sloane PharrSloane is a board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) who specializes in the application of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) as a therapeutic approach for the treatment of children diagnosed with autism and related disorders.

She holds 2 Masters Degrees from Colombia University; her first degree is in Clinical Psychology, more specifically in Education and her2nd degree is in Teaching as Applied Behaviour Analysis.

11/02/09 – Psychological / Educational Panel Assessments now Available
Is your child struggling to find academic success? In keeping with best practise guidelines The Wellness Centre completes all assessments from a panel perspective, which means a team of professionals evaluate assessment results to ensure to most accurate diagnosis and comprehensive summary report. Our panel, which includes both an Educational Psychologist and Clinical Psychologist has over 20 combined years of experience in the assessment of a wide range of learning, developmental, clinical and behavioural disabilities. A comprehensive assessment can facilitate referral to appropriate intervention services as well as assist in the preparation of Individualized Education Plans to provide assistance to your child's teacher. 8/26/09 – Farewell to Dolores
Our thanks to Dolores Wollbaum for her work at The Wellness Centre in assisting clients and working with our corporate partners.  We wish her well as she moves to Canada.  She will be greatly missed.

08/21/09 – Dealing with Stress in Modern Life
The Wellness Centre was invited to speak on Radio Cayman's "Talk Today" radio program in August.  The focus of the program was Stress Management and Personal Financial Planning.  Rayle Roberts gave insights and tips on handling stress in families and the workplace.

08/07/09 --WOW Program and The Wellness Centre

Rayle Roberts led an exciting community presentation with the participants of the WOW (War on Weight) Program.  Rayle spoke about the connection between our emotions and weight loss and the usefulness of hypnotherapy as a weight loss tool.  We wish all the participants of this Cayman Heart Fund program all the best!  We look forward to supporting you in your weight loss efforts.

07/31/09 – Fostering Creativity in the Workplace
The Wellness Centre recently led a NEW Lunchtime workshop with the staff of Cayman Islands Investment Bureau.  We explored the business case for innovation, and the use of "whole brain" thinking and other creativity tools in the workplace to solve business problems and innovate.

07/13/09 – A New Special Partnership
We are excited to announce a new wellness partnership with Generali Worldwide.  Together, we will focus on increasing health and wellness prevention in the Cayman Islands.

07/01/09 – Summer Camps are Launched!
We are hosting all kinds of summer camps this year!  From Social Skills and Brain Train Camps to Girl Power and Teen Girl Power Camps!  Kids will have lots of fun in these small-size groups while learning new skills and building their self-esteem!

06/20/09 – Hypnosis for Self-Healing and Growth
Rayle Roberts led an engaging afternoon workshop: "An Introduction to Hypnosis" to give participants the experience of how this tool can deeply relax them and make personal change easier.  Look for in-depth weekly courses on Self-hypnosis this fall, led by Rayle at The Wellness Centre.

05/30/09 – The Healing Power of Groups
Our Sexual trauma specialist, Taylor Burrowes has been leading a 6-week group for adolescent girls to help them heal from the experience of sexual abuse.  Taylor also led a special Healing the Family Workshop for the girls' parents and caregivers. The Wellness Centre warmly acknowledges the support of the Department of Social Services in helping make these groups possible.

05/15/09 – Let's Hear it For the Team
The Wellness Centre joined the Finance Department of KPMG to explore team and leadership dynamics.  Shannon Seymour facilitated the retreat; and a stronger team and a wonderfully enriching day were the result.

05/02/09 – Caledonian Builds a Stronger Team!
Rayle Roberts and Dolores Wollbaum spent a full-day in Retreat with the Managers and Assistant Managers of Caldonian Group of Companies in beautiful East End.  The group focused on learning about their leadership styles, building a sense of team unity, and creating a blueprint for improved communication.

04/15/09 – Pediatric Occupational Therapy now available!
The Wellness Centre would like to welcome Rhelma Codilla to our team.  Rhelma has a Masters in Occupational Therapy, with a great deal of experience with learning disabilites, autism, gross and fine motor issues, ADHD and other challenges kids have.  We have a wonderful expanded Kids Therapy room--chockful of occupational therapy tools--and toys & games that kids love!

04/01/09 – We Believe in Sexual Assault Prevention
The theme for Sexual Assault Awareness Month this year is "Prevent Sexual Violence...in your Workplace".  The Wellness Centre is available to present at your company or organization on how to address sexual violence at work, how to prevent it, and how to set up a comphrehensive sexual harassment policy in your workplace.

03/20/09 – Live Well Stress Management Workshop
The Wellness Centre will be leading highly relaxing 4-hour workshops for the public.  This is to help people relieve their stress and learn easy-to-learn relaxation techniques they can use in their daily lives!

03/11/09 – New Staff Have Joined
The Wellness Centre welcomes new staff! Dolores Wollbaum for Corporate Administration and Training/Facilitating and M. Taylor Burrowes as a Clinical Therapist.

07/18/08 – New Skills Group
Shannon facilitated a 12 session Social Skills Group for children. The programme, designed for children with both developmental and behavioural challenges, was a great experience for all!

Rayle and Shannon joined HSBC’s Senior Management team in Little Cayman for a Team Retreat. It was a great opportunity for enriched leadership and team development.

05/20/07 - Learning from TEEACH
Shannon Seymour attended the Annual TEEACCH Conference in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The TEEACCH Programme is a world renowned centre for advanced research, training and intervention in the field of Autism and Autism Spectrum Disorders. It was a great opportunity for learning and sharing.

05/16/07 - Maximizing Diversity
Shannon and Rayle presented "Maximizing Cayman’s Diversity for a Stronger Workplace" at the Cayman Islands Society of Human Resource Professional’s Annual Conference. Marriot Resort, Grand Cayman (see: www.cishrp.ky). They spoke to a group of more than 100 local Human Resource professionals on the importance of cultural diversity in the Cayman Island’s workforce. As participants at last years conference we were honoured to have been invited back this year as presenters.

04/29/07 - Leaders of Tomorrow
On April 27th and 28th Rayle and Shannon were pleased to present "Growing Leaders", an interactive workshop at the Caribbean Regional RotoAct Conference, recently held in Grand Cayman. At this exciting workshop Rayle and Shannon spoke to a dynamic group of young Rotarians from around the region about the importance of personal development and growth, as they become the social change makers of tomorrow.
